Ring Me One Time

dad

Our dad went to heaven yesterday.

He’s home. He told us so.

When my siblings and I were teenagers, we would visit friends in a neighboring town on the weekends. This was way before cell phones. It was long distance to call home so the code to let our parents know we made it there ok was to call, but let the phone ring only once. “Ring me one time”, they’d say.

Yesterday, my sisters and I were waiting in the family room not too long after dad has passed. Out of the blue, the fancy-looking phone rang…once. We didn’t really think much of it until my sister mentioned it to Chaplain Dave. Chaplain Dave is the most wonderful man who helped us maneuver the most difficult day of our lives. He has to be a saint. Funny thing is, Chaplain Dave said he didn’t even know that phone worked because he has never, ever heard it ring before.

Hmmm…wait…it just rang. I mean, it only rang once, but it rang.

…and

…then

…it

…hit

…us.

Dad was letting us know he made it. He’s ok. He’s home.

Thanks for the call, Dad.

Man, we miss you.

Stay in touch, ok?

Ring us one time.
